Marrakesh, Sept. 23 - The 16^th Plenipotentiary Conference of the International telecommunication Union (ITU) opened here Monday to debate the future of the industry and of the Union.

These high-level delegates are expected to propose global policy strategies that will breathe life back into the telecommunications sector and extend the benefits of ICTs to the more than half of the world’s population still struggling to get access to basic voice telephony.

Madrid, Sep.18 - Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar refused to come to Marrakesh to attend a tribute of the Marrakesh International Festival opened Wednesday because of the political strains marring Morocco-Spain ties.

Moroccan writer, Tahar Ben Jelloun, criticized Almodovar’s refusal in an open letter, which was published by Spanish daily “La Vanguardia”.

Casablanca, Aug.31 – The International Film Festival of Marrakesh is an opportunity for the encounter of different, sometimes even opposing philosophies, and promotes cultural exchange and dialogue, said in Casablanca on Thursday adviser to King Mohammed VI and vice-chairman of the Foundation of the International Film Festival of Marrakesh, Andre Azoulay.
